Brief History

  • 1972- Established (As a Library of Secretaries office and collected only Government Publications) under the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry
  • 1973- The National Archives Department as a Third Grade Institution
  • 1982- Developed "Strengthening of National Archives" by the UNESCO
  • 1990- Second Grade Department
  • 1990- National Records and Archives Law was enacted
  • 1991- Became a member of SARBICA
  • 1993- Became a member of ICA
  • 1993- Under the Ministry of National Planning and Economic Development
  • 2000- Procedures relating to the National Records and Archives Law was issued
  • 2007- The Amendment of The National Records and Archives Law
  • 2009- Headquarters of National Archives of Myanmar (Nay Pyi Taw) has been constructing
  • 2012- First Grade Department
  • 2015- May, Headquarter has inaugurated as a phase 1
  • 2017- Had got government approval to extend Mandalay branch with new organization chart
  • 2019 - The National Records and Archives Law was enacted again.
